Evaluating Sources

Instructions

1. Locate information from a variety of Sources:

  •   A web source
  •   A reference source
  • A database source*
  •  A You Tube Source
  •  A blog source
  •   Google Books

2. Create a citation for each source (databases provide citations).

3. In your annotation box answer the following questions...These will be eaiser to answer if you have created a full citation.

Content Questions

  • How does this source help you answer your question or refine your question?  Be specific about the information you find useful and make a specific connection to your question.

Authority and Credibility Questions

  • Who is the author?  Can you tell?  What are his/her credentials in connection with the information you need?
  • Who is the publisher?  Have you heard of this publisher before?  How do you know the publisher is reputable? (Check the "About" or look for FAQ for clues).
  • How current is the information?  Does it matter to your research?
  • How does the information in this source fit with what you already know or what you’ve read  or seen elsewhere?

  • What information is missing from this source that you will have to locate somewhere else?
